Testimonials
John and Tony, Sportsco Epping & Broadmeadows VIC
The benefits of being part of one of the largest sporting goods retailers in Australia is that we have found that the support and ongoing committment from the Sportsco Franchise system has enabled us to successfully operate our business and be part of a major chain as opposed to being a small independant with no real support. After purchasing our second store we would have no hesitation in recommending the Sportsco group to anyone who wants to be a part of a professional franchise.
Graham Fitzpatrick, Sportsco Werribee VIC
Linda and I made the decision to buy the Sportsco Werribee Store in May 1996 after a close association with one of the Directors. My background was in senior and middle management with National Mutual Life Association for 20 years. I also had my own business within the insurance industry for about 10 years employing upwards of 20 "self employed" people. Linda was also involved in that business. When we first started we had a very steep learning curve but the assistance by Sportsco in helping us to get established was excellent. We had a lot of assistance with stock ordering and cash flows in particular, which we believe are very necessary in conducting a successful business. The fact that we had been "in business" before also helped us to be in control of the day to day running of the business.
Without the Sportsco Systems in place we would have definitely struggled in the early years. Now we probably take the systems for granted but it is still very important to follow them. I also think that a big part of our success is that we are willing to listen and put into place good ideas that we pick up from other franchisees and other retailers from time to time.
In 2000 we were fortunate enough to win the Victorian Franchisee of the Year and also the National Franchisee of the Year in our Werribee Store. In March 2000 we purchased the Sydenham Store and since then have been able to develop both stores into quite good businesses. We both really enjoy "retailing" but now we are working more "on" the business rather than "on the shop floor". Make no mistake, having a susccessful Sportsco Franchise involves a lot of commitment and hard work but the rewards are there if the effort is there, and the systems are followed.
Lesley and Robert Macdonald, Sportsco Brookside QLD
In the year 2000, my husband and I decided it was time to enter into our own small business. After much soul searching, research of different business’, discussion and many sleepless nights we decided to purchase the Sportsco Brookside franchise in June 2000. This decision was a major change of direction for both of us. My previous background was private hospital management and my husband was a bricklayer by trade.
Our first week was certainly a “baptism of fire” with the introduction of GST two days after takeover. There have been several other curved balls tossed our way since taking on this franchise, least of all new major competition within walking distance from our store. However with an emphasis for excellent customer service, staff education, strong brand recognition provided by being part of a Sportsco franchise and disciplined business management practices being applied we have held our head above water.
The support offered by the franchisee network always helps to keep one motivated and enthusiastic at all times.
We feel the recent sale of Sportsco Pty Ltd and the re-shuffle of the head office management team together with the introduction of more disciplined procedures and a more extensive advertising program can only provide positive direction and outcomes for franchisees.
It is also encouraging to see that the ‘new’ Sportsco has plans to open new stores within the foreseeable future.
Overall we find the experience of owning a Sportsco franchise challenging and rewarding.
